Norfolk State & Winston Salem State are Unanimous #1 In Week – 11 Top-10 Polls

Hartly, DE – Norfolk State and Winston Salem State are unanimous in Week-11 HSRN Div. I FCS and Div. II polls. It’s Norfolk State’s first and Winston Salem State is on top spot for the eighth consecutive week in the number one position. Each week during the 2011 season HSRN staff and writers, along with selected media representatives and SIDs, will rank Historical Black Colleges Division I FCS and NCAA Division II teams.

In FCS action last week #4 Jackson State knocked off #1 Alabama A&M 34-6, dropping the Bulldogs to #4 and moved the Tigers to the #2 position. Norfolk State took over the #1 position with their 47-14 win over Morgan State and also won the MEAC championship. #3 Alabama State also took an upset loss to unranked Southern 26-23 and dropped to #5. #5 Florida A&M defeated N.C. Central 31-10 and moved up to #3 and #6 S.C. State defeated N.C. A&T 30-22, but surprisingly dropped to #7 behind #6 Bethune Cookman after their 59-3 win over Savannah State. Howard, Hampton and Grambling State held on to the 8-9-and 10 spots. Hampton defeated Delaware State 42-6, Grambling State defeated Texas Southern 29-25 and Howard was idle.

In Div. II action, #1 Winston Salem State remained the only unbeaten HBCU football team after winning the CIAA Championship game over #2 Elizabeth City State 38-18. #4 Morehouse was idle, but moved up to #2 after #7 Miles knocked off #3 Albany State 20-17 to win the SIAC Championship game. Elizabeth City dropped to #3 and Miles moved up to #4. Albany State dropped to #5 and Stillman dropped to #8 after they were upset 12-7 by unranked Concordia.
