 Hartly, DE – Alabama State has moved to the top spot and Winston Salem St. is unanimous in Week-5 HSRN’s Div. I FCS and Div. II Top-10 polls.
Each week during the 2011 season HSRN staff and writers, along with selected media representatives and SIDs, will rank Historical Black Colleges Division I FCS and NCAA Division II teams.
The FCS poll voting was definitely tight with Alabama State claiming 14 first place votes and 237 points, beating out Norfolk State who had 10 first place votes and 232 points. Alabama State defeated Alcorn State 31-23 and kept their unbeaten mark in the SWAC, while Norfolk State pulled off the big win 17-14 over previous #1 S.C. State and kept their unbeaten mark in the MEAC. Jackson State won big over Texas Southern 58-13 and moved up to the number three spot, while S.C. State and Bethune Cookman fell to number four and five respectively. Alabama A&M defeated #9 Arkansas Pine Bluff 28-27 and moved from 10 to 8, while Prairie View defeated Grambling St. 31-23 and moved back into the top-10 at number 9.
In Div. II action, Winston Salem St. is unanimous with 25 first place votes after their 28-10 win over J.C. Smith. Albany St. held on to number two after their 57-31 win over #6 Kentucky State. Morehouse is at number three and still unbeaten in the SIAC after their 30-2 win over Clark Atlanta and Stillman also remained unbeaten in the SIAC, holding on to the number three position. Elizabeth City State was idle last weekend, but moved up to the number five spot from number eight. Virginia State moved into the top-10 at number seven after their 28-21 OT win over previous #5 Bowie State.
