Hampton, Florida A&M Women stay tied at the top;
Men’s Division: Norfolk State Still Alone In First

Monday, January 16 –The third weekend of basketball in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conferencewrapped up Monday night, with the top of the standings in both women’s and men’s divisions remaining the same after the lights went out.
Monday Women’s Games
In the women’s division, the conference co-leaders crushed their opposition on Monday evening to remain deadlocked at the top…. Hampton University (13-3, 5-0) ran away from hostMorgan State (2-14, 0-4), 83-51 in Baltimore, whileFlorida A&M (12-5, 5-0) rolled past visitingSouth Carolina State (8-9, 3-3), 79-62 in Tallahassee.
Other women’s games Monday saw Howard (13-6, 5-1) maintain their hold on second place after poundingNorth Carolina Central (2-15, 0-4), 67-26 in Washington, D.C.; visiting Coppin State (8-10, 3-2) edged past host Norfolk State (8-9, 3-3), 67-63 in Norfolk, Va.; while Bethune-Cookman (5-12, 2-3) needed overtime to subdue visiting Savannah State (7-10, 1-5), 58-54 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Meanwhile, Maryland-Eastern Shore (4-10, 2-1), North Carolina A&T (7-10, 2-2) and Delaware State (3-13, 0-3) had byes on Monday.
Monday Men’s Games
In the men’s division, first place Norfolk State (14-5, 6-0) held onto sole possession of the top spot with a74-66 road win atCoppin State (8-10, 3-2), while newcomerSavannah State (8-10, 4-2)dropped from second to fourth after falling on the road at Bethune-Cookman (7-12, 4-1), 68-62, a victory which vaulted the defending regular season champion Wildcats into second place.
The league’s other newbie, North Carolina Central (9-8, 3-1) remained in third while Savannah and Bethune switched places around them in the standings, after scoring a 69-53 road win at Howard (4-16, 1-6); Florida A&M (4-15, 2-3), put the bite on last place South Carolina State (4-14, 0-5), 86-69 in Tallahassee, while host Morgan State (4-11, 2-2) won a68-56 victory overvisiting Hampton (6-12, 2-3) in Baltimore.
