SAU MEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO VIRGINIA UNION ON THE ROAD

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 4) – Gary Jefferson (Jr./Baltimore, MD) scored 12 points and Jalen Gaddy (Sr./Raleigh, NC) and Nilous Hodge (So./Charlotte, NC) added 10 points apiece for Saint Augustine’s University in an 82-67 CIAA men’s basketball loss to Virginia Union University on Monday, Feb. 3, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

Geordan Walker (Jr./Durham, NC) contributed nine points and Donte Edwards (So./Durham, NC) tacked on eight points for the Falcons, who trailed 61-57 with 4:46 remaining in the game. The Falcons fell victim to a 21-10 game-ending run by the Panthers.

The Falcons shot 49 percent from the floor and 70.6 percent from the free throw line (12 of 17). They outscored the Panthers 35-4 in bench points.

Virginia Union (6-4 CIAA, 13-10 overall) countered with 42 points from Terrell Leach, who was 8 of 15 behind the three-point arc and 14 of 17 from the free throw line. The Panthers shot 47.1 percent from the floor, 46.4 percent behind the three-point line (13 of 28) and 72.4 percent from the charity stripe (21 of 29). They outscored the Falcons 30-14 in turnover points.

The Falcons (3-9 CIAA, 8-14 overall) play again Wednesday, Feb. 5, against Lincoln (Pa.) University in Lincoln University, Pa. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
